ProSense® Cryoablation System & the ICE3 Trial
ProSense is a liquid nitrogen based cryoablation system that uses extreme cold to freeze and ablate tumors of the breast. Under ultrasound guidance, a thin, needle-like cryoprobe is inserted into the breast lesion and ablated using a freeze-thaw-freeze technique to destroy the tumor without excision. The procedure can be performed in an outpatient setting in less than an hour. Both patients and physicians have high satisfaction with the cosmetic results as the breast remains whole with minimal scarring.
Led by IceCure Medical, the ICE3 trial on cryoablation of early-stage, low-risk breast cancer* published promising 5-year results. Published in the Annals of Surgical Oncology by Richard Fine, MD. ICE3 patients treated with ProSense cryoablation and endocrine therapy only had 97.3% recurrence free rate.
