Hear how cryoablation is reshaping de-escalation with multidisciplinary decision-making for select patients with low-risk breast cancer
During this engaging video excerpt from IceCure’s 2026 American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) symposium, Michael S. Sabel, MD, FACS, FSSO, William Coon Professor of Surgical Oncology at the University of Michigan, discusses breast cancer cryoablation in the context of multidisciplinary care.
Complete the form to watch the full-length video and learn how cryoablation plays a pivotal role in the multidisciplinary de-escalation clinic for low-risk breast cancer patients.
What you’ll learn in this video:
- Understand cryoablation in context. How does it relate to the larger trend of de-escalation in breast cancer care? Dr. Sabel discusses other methods of de-escalation such as the reduction of sentinel lymph node biopsy, radiation therapy, and endocrine therapy in select populations.
- Review of studies aimed at surgical de-escalation. How did they shape the current breast cancer care landscape? SOUND, INSEMA, CALGB, PRIME II, FROST, ICE3, EUROPA and others studies are influencing how clinicians approach lower-intensity care.
- Explore the clinical questions shaping practice. Why treatment decisions around cryoablation must be coordinated within a multidisciplinary de-escalation clinic that includes breast surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, and others.
Why a multidisciplinary clinic matters for breast cancer de-escalation?
As breast cancer care eventually moves towards more personalized, lower-intensity approaches, cryoablation especially represents an important area of clinical discussion within the broader de-escalation landscape. Thus, this educational segment demonstrates why treatment decisions should take place within a coordinated multidisciplinary setting. Furthermore, by working together – breast surgeons, radiologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and others – can support appropriate patient selection for cryoablation.

About ProSense® Cryoablation For Breast Cancer
IceCure’s ProSense® System uses liquid nitrogen-based cryoablation technology to destroy targeted tissue through a minimally invasive, image-guided approach performed under local anesthesia. ProSense® has received FDA marketing authorization for the local treatment of breast cancer in women aged 70 and older with biologically low-risk tumors measuring ≤1.5 cm who receive adjuvant endocrine therapy.
